The first cable car at the facility was built in 1971 and was an important technical achievement for its time. It featured two cabins and had a maximum carrying capacity of 280 passengers per hour.
The construction of a new, state-of-the-art funitel was part of the renovation of the Regency Casino Mont Parnes facilities and was undertaken by the Austrian company Doppelmayr, the largest ropeway system company in the world with more than 8,000 projects on 5 continents to its name.
At a cost exceeding €70 million, the new funitel in Parnitha and the facilities of the lower teleferique station constitute major technological and architectural achievements, respectively.
Convenient transfer, with a magnificent view over the Attica Basin, it is a short and pleasant 7-minute journey that prepares visitors for their unique enjoyment experience at the Parnitha establishment.
The lower station, an architectural jewel in total harmony with its environment, is one of the most interesting buildings created over the last few decades in Attica. The building is a minimalist, highly elegant setting which highlights the original works of art created especially for this unique space. Paintings and sculptures alternate and comprise a unique collection that combines Greek elements with the avant garde. Fully harmonised with the building's architecture, the works of art are sure to impress visitors as they move through it.
Within the station, stone flooring, wooden-clad walls and earthy tones make up the evocative, tranquil but impressive atmosphere of the space, which is dominated by a huge chandelier 10 metres high and made of 8,500 pieces of blown glass that continually change colour and draw the attention of visitors.
